Someone I Know Just Came Out as Gender Variant

Okay, so your friend, partner, a member of your family or someone else you know just came out as gender variant. What now?

Well this is another of those situations where it's important to realise that they're still them. You've just discovered something new about them. This should be celebrated! This is easier said than done though.

That being said, you probably feel the need to talk to someone else who's experienced something similar. Currently to my knowledge there are no sites or online fora specifically the friends, families and partners of gender variant people. However you may find it useful to contact organisations that help support the friends, families and partners of transgendered people generally.

If your a parent of an gender variant person in Scotland, you may wish to contact Parent's Enquiry Scotland. Whilst they don't have specific knowledge of gender variant issues, they are exceedingly good at supporting parent's of LGBT people.

There are a number of online fora which could provide support for the partners, friends and families of androgynes and genderqueer people. One that I would recommend as a safe space is transgenderzone.com.
